Child Development Educators Association:

Curriculum and Rubrics Manual

This project is a partnership with Child Development Community College faculty across the state to assist departments that strive for national accreditation of their Associate of Applied Science Degree from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Through the alignment of existing student learning outcomes found in the WECM, to NAEYC core standards, each college will be able to adapt the key assessments to meet their students needs and skill levels. The five core standards include the following:

  1. Promoting Child Development and Learning
  2. Building Family and Community relationships
  3. Observing, Documenting and Assessing to Support Young Children and Families
  4. Teaching and Learning
  5. Becoming a Professional

Each CDEC course will have a corresponding key assessment description and a grading rubric with consistent grading requirements and expectations. Each faculty member will be able to measure levels of proficiency that evaluate a student’s performance. This data can help faculty evaluate and assess instruction and methodology.

Project Deliverables will include a Curriculum and Rubrics manual and CD that will be distributed to all Child Development faculty in Texas. Seventy-seven faculty representing thirty-two colleges will receive the manual in Texas. The manual and CD will be completed and mailed in July 2008.

Project Funded by the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 as administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, THECB, and through the Texas State Leadership Council.
